“I doubt we will ever hear better recorded performances of the three piano quartets than we have here…Kate Gould’s cello in the moving slow movements of Nos 2 and 3 is breathtakingly beautiful…” Classic FM Magazine, on Brahms’ Piano Quartets, Hyperion Records.

Kate has devoted her career to chamber music, primarily as a founder member of the Leopold String Trio and London Bridge Ensemble. In addition, she is a member of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and is often invited to play as guest-principal cellist of the UK’s leading orchestras, such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra and Northern Sinfonia.

She appears regularly at Wigmore Hall and on BBC Radio 3. The Leopold String Trio has recently disbanded after twenty-one years, having received many prestigious awards: most recently from the Royal Philharmonic Society (winners of the Chamber Music category) and Borletti-Buitoni Trust.

In 2001 they were selected for both the ECHO ‘Rising Stars’ and BBC Radio 3 New Generation schemes. They performed at the major concert halls and festivals worldwide, often with eminent pianists such as Paul Lewis, Marc-Andre Hamelin, Pascal Rogé, Christian Zacharius and Alekzander Madjar. The trio’s career culminated in a performance of Tippett’s Triple Concerto at the Barbican Centre with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in October 2012.

Last season Kate was invited to take part in the Sunnmøre Chamber Music Festival, Norway, and the Peasmarsh Chamber Music Festival, Sussex. Kate plays a Carlo-Guiseppe Testore cello of 1711.
