Alice Neary has performed concertos with the Ulster Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Israel Symphony, English Chamber Orchestra and Baltimore Symphony. She has given recitals at the Wigmore and Bridgewater Halls and Purcell Room and festival appearances include Manchester International Cello Festival, Santa Fe, Bath Festivals and International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove. She broadcasts frequently on BBC Radio 3 and NPR (USA).
A passionate chamber musician, Alice is a member of the Gould Piano Trio, whose extensive recordings include the complete Brahms trios. Recent recordings include John Ireland’s Cello Sonata (Naxos), which was chosen as BBC Music Magazine’s Chamber Music Disc of the Month. She has also made guest appearances with the Endellion, Elias, Heath and Sorrel Quartets.
Alice was the winner of the 1998 Pierre Fournier Award and other major prizes include the Leonard Rose Competition, USA (2001) and the Adam International Cello Competition, New Zealand (1997). She studied with Ralph Kirshbaum at RNCM and in the USA as a Fulbright Scholar with Timothy Eddy. Alice currently teaches at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She plays an Alessandro Gagliano cello of 1710.
Alice grew up in Winchester and comes from a musical family: her father is the organist and choral director, Martin Neary and her husband is David Adams, another 2012 Festival guest.
