What better way to explore the breadth of the chamber music repertoire than through the music of Mendelssohn?
In our 2018 Festival we celebrate Mendelssohn’s writing for string quartet, quintet and octet, piano trio and song with our guests the Heath Quartet and baritone Ivan Ludlow, all making a very welcome return to the Festival. We will also be joined on stage by up-and-coming violinist Mathilde Milwidsky, and the exciting Pelléas Ensemble who will perform some beautiful repertoire for flute, viola and harp.
Alongside the music of Mendelssohn, we will also be highlighting repertoire by other chamber music greats, such as Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn and Schubert, interspersed with some later masterpieces by Debussy and Schoenberg. And on Friday evening we will be bringing the Festival right up to the modern day through the première performance of the completed piano trio by Colin Matthews, specially commissioned by the Festival.
Do join us in May to discover a real wealth of chamber music!
