Esther HoppeEsther Hoppe, 1st Prize Winner of the 8th International Mozart Competition in Salzburg 2002, is very active both as soloist and chamber musician. Since 2009 she’s also held the position of the 1st concertmaster at the Munich Chamber Orchestra and from March 2013 will take up a professorship at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg. From 2003-2011 she was a founding member of the award-winning Tecchler Trio.

Esther has toured the U.S., Japan, India and Europe, and performed in Wigmore Hall London, Herkules Saal Munich, Tchaikovsky Conservatory Moscow, Salamanca Hall Gifu, Mozarteum Salzburg and Wiener Konzerthaus. She is a regular guest at festivals such as Lucerne Festival, Menuhin Festival Gstaad, Delft Chamber Music Festival, Open Chamber Music Prussia Cove, Festival Mecklenburg Vorpommern, and Davos Festival. As a regular guest with the Swiss Chamber Soloists, she enjoys an intensive collaboration with the composer and oboe player Heinz Holliger. She’s performed several world premieres by Birtwistle, Holliger, Carter, Kelterborn, amongst others.
Esther has made recordings with the Tecchler Trio (Ars Musici and Concentus Records), the Swiss Chamber Soloists (Neos), and on a CD with works by Saint-Saens (Virgin Classics).

Born in Zug, Switzerland, she studied with Thomas Füri at the Music Academy in Basel, Switzerland, the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, USA, where she worked with Robert Mann and Ida Kavafian. Esther undertook postgraduate studies with the late Yfrah Neaman at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and finished her studies in Zurich with Nora Chastain. The Zuger Kantonalbank enables her to play on a violin by Gioffredo Cappa, made in 1690. Esther Hoppe lives in Winterthur, Switzerland, and has a son.
